Do shoes tell a lot about a person’s personality?

Shoes

A study in Kansas in America throws a light on how we judge people depending on the footwear they wear.

Shoes

In a recent study done in The USA, researchers found that it was possible to guess the age, income and even some of the psychological traits of a person by seeing what kind of the person is wearing.

More than 200 people took part in the Survey between the age group of 18 to 55 years. The group was told to send the photographs of the shoes which they wear frequently. They then had to complete a full questionnaire. Another group of 63 people had to inspect the photographs taken and evaluate the personality of the shoe owners. The second group managed to make basic assumptions in the case of polished shoes and that they belonged to those who had money, trainers and sneakers with youth and shoes which were scuffed and frayed, belonged to the lower income group people.

Shoes

The researchers were in for a surprise because they thought that one could easily tell the person’s personality by seeing their shoes, but they were wrong. The shoes which were worn out were associated with those people who are peaceful and really do not care about their appearance. While on the other hand the shoes which were well-maintained were associated with those people who trying to be someone who he is not and is afraid of commitment. Some of the assumptions were true but there was also a grey area to the first assumption – the worn out footwear may also mean that an owner is a nonchalant person or a person has a low self-esteem.

So next time, when you go out for an interview or on a date and you, have to make an impression always remember to wear nice and appropriate shoes.  But remember, your shoes might not show who you actually are.
