Entrepreneurship Development Programmes

Over the last five decades, the MSME sector has emerged as a vital sector of the Indian economy. MSMEs not only help in providing large scale employment opportunities, but they help in the development of rural and backward areas. The ministry of MSME promotes the development of micro and small enterprises in the country with the objective of creating self-employment. It also aims to upgrade the skills of potential entrepreneurs.

MSME’ office conducts a large number of vocational and entrepreneurship programmes. Although, the various departments of the government impart vocational training, EDP is conducted only by the MSME office.

The programmes offered by MSME are of short duration ranging from 2 to 6 weeks and they are conducted primarily for the weaker section of the society i.e. (SC, ST, Women and physically challenged). No fee is charged to them. Apart from this a stipend of Rs 125 per week is provided to the candidates.

Assistance under the Scheme

The contents of the Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) are designed to provide information on products, design, testing and quality control, export opportunities, infrastructure facilities available and cash flow among others. The courses which are conducted under the EDP are Industrial Management, Human Resources Management, and Marketing Management etc.

5% of the annual budget under the scheme will be utilised for providing training aids, equipment and other related infrastructure which will help to strengthen the quality of training activities. Allocations under training aids will be demand-based for items like projectors, white boards and PA system etc.

Selection Procedure of the candidates

The applications of the candidates are invited through advertisements in newspapers and websites of office DC (MSME) and even MSME-DIs. The Selection Committee at MSME-DIs selects the candidate by considering their qualification and past experience. Preference is given to the candidates who belong to the weaker sections of the society.

The progress of the programme is monitored on a monthly basis. A monthly report is sent to the Director in charge of Skill Development Programme at the office of DC (MSME). He then further evaluates the effectiveness of the programme
