Skin and Hair care tips

Winter care for you

Finally, the winter has set in and people are rejoicing. It is a time when people enjoy the comforts of the home. It is the time when a cosy corner is the most sought after destination. You make that extra effort to get out of your warm bed and a Herculean effort to step into the shower, and once you are inside, you don’t want to step out of it.

The winter season is especially taxing for the skin and hair. You need to take special care of it. One of the most common types of skin problem is dryness because the skin is not properly hydrated. Here we are going to talk about ways with which you can take care of your skin and hair.

Keep it cool – During winters, a 20-minute long boiling –hot shower might feel great, but because of the long exposure of hot water can strip off the moisture from hair and skin. Try and take a bath with lukewarm water for about five minutes.

Healthy Fats – Consume healthy fats such as mono-saturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids which can be found in fish, nuts, olive oil, flax, sardines and avocados.

Remain Hydrated – Although, there is no concrete proof that drinking water helps to rehydrate the skin during winters, but there is no harm in consuming adequate amount of water during the winter season.

Vitamin C is the key – Try and consume Vitamin-C. Citrus fruits and dark, leafy greens are a good source of Vitamin C. Vitamin C helps boost the body’s production of collagen. It is a protein that maintains skin and other connective tissues.

Extra tips

For dry skin: To cure dry skin, mix a few drops of olive oil or grape seed oil in bathwater and hop in. Apply a thin layer of oil to the body after showering. If possible, try and add a few cups of whole milk to the bath water in order to moisturize the skin.

Rough Hair: During wintertime, hair needs a little extra care. Wash your hair every other day and shampoo it twice a week. Also, avoid to blow dry your hair as the wet locks make your hair delicate. If your hair is parched then add a few olive oil and comb your hair with a wide-tooth comb.

Chapped Lips: During winters another part of our body which need special care are our lips. Always keep a tube of lip balm handy, because winter can take chapped lips to a whole new level. If the severity of your dry lips is acute, you can then apply Vaseline for 15 minutes and later remove it with a cotton swab dipped in hot water.
