Chennai has been facing the full brunt of not only the winter monsoons, but also some shoddy urban planning. Heavy rains have pounded several areas of Tamil Nadu, especially Chennai. There has been water logging in many parts of Chennai which has left a lot of people in dire need of basic supplies.

Massive relief and rescue operation is underway, with Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force and the NDRF trying their best to rescue those who are trapped. Even after this, there might not be a respite for those living in Chennai, as the metrological department has predicted rainfall for the next 48 hours.

The death toll due to rain-related incidents has risen to 200, according to the state government. Chief Minister Jayalalithaa also ordered the postponement of half-yearly examinations, which were supposed to commence from December 7.
