All eyes are on KP once again with the England Cricket Board (ECB) chief Colin Graves hinting towards recalling Kevin Pietersen because of England’s disastrous World Cup campaign. He was removed from the England squad in 2014, even though he was in a good form. The officials blamed it on his indiscipline effecting negatively on the squad. KP is one of the most intriguing players in England’s cricketing scenario. Throughout his cricketing career, Pietersen has been outspoken, and has questioned the authority time and again.

He was born in South Africa, but decided to quit, because of the racial quota system. He then moved to England and started playing for the English National team and later become a star of English cricket team. But his antics and his outspoken nature did not go well with the board officials.

With chief of ECB now interested in bringing back KP, we bring you his top moments.

Ashes Regained In 2005 – One of the most controversial cricketers to play for England, Kevin Pietersen started his career in Tests. His inclusion in the Test side removed Graham Thrope from the squad who at that time was one of the most popular cricketers in the English side. The decision to include KP in the Test squad did not go down well with the fans. However, he justified his inclusion.  England was 2-1 up in the series. The fourth Test saw England struggling against the Aussies, as they were just 67 for 3 and had a lead of a mere 35 runs. It seemed that the Ashes series will be a draw, which is when KP came in and took the match away from Australia, as he scored 158 runs. England had won the match and also the series. The Ashes had come back to England after a gap of 18 years and KP was a major contributor to the victory as he had also scored two half centuries in the series.

T20 World Cup 2010: It was the first time England had won a major ICC tournament, despite being the country that popularised the game of cricket in the world. KP was the ‘Man of the Series’ which was held in the Caribbean. He had scored 248 runs at an average of 62.

No 1 ODI Batsmen: Kevin Pietersen shone brightly in the 2007 World Cup. He had slammed two centuries in the tournament and a total of 444 runs were scored by him. This performance took him to the number one spot as a One Day International batsman.

Switch Hit: There are batsmen who revolutionise cricket by inventing their own shots, KP is one of them. He invented the ‘switch hit’. The shot become more popular with the advent of T20 format and is one the most used shot by the batsmen around the world to break the rhythm of the bowlers.
