Players who have won IPL orange cap till date

IPL

Since its first season, IPL has had a number of batsmen who have impressed everyone around with their pyrotechnics with the bat. Each season batsmen from all the teams compete for the IPL orange cap, and in the end only one batsman gets to wear it.

Here we are going to tell you about all the players who have won the  IPL orange cap.

Shaun Marsh (2008): When IPL started Shaun Marsh’s only claim to fame was that he was the son of the great Geoff Marsh. But the inaugural edition of IPL changed it for him. With his classical batting exploits, he impressed everyone. He was a typical left-handed batsman and went on to score 616 runs in 11 matches. Because of his exploits, he was later selected into the one-day team of Australia too.

IPL orange cap

Matthew Hayden (2009): The second season saw the cap in the hands of yet another Left-Handed Australian, and this time it was Matthew Hayden. He had called it quits in January 2009 but was available for IPL. Chennai Super Kings bought the dashing southpaw and he dominated the tournament that year. Hayden never looked old or out of place as he went about doing his business. He scored 572 runs in 12 matches.

IPL orange cap

Sachin Tendulkar (2010): The 2010 edition saw Sachin Tendulkar as the winner of the Orange Cap. This guy has basically won everything in his cricketing career. That year, just before the IPL tournament, he had just smashed his double hundred. He went into the tournament with a lot of confidence. He scored a staggering 618 runs in 15 matches with only three sixes.

Chris Gayle (2011): The T20 format is tailor-made for the big man from Jamaica. The way he goes on about hitting those huge sixes is just mind boggling. In this season, he is mostly remembered for hitting five sixes off Rahul Sharma. Here he also found a new formula of batting. He took his time in the crease and then changed the tempo fast, which used to make up for the lost time. He scored 608 runs in 12 matches.

Chris Gayle (2012): In the fifth edition no one initially picked him up but was later picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore. And boy was he a treat to watch. What a carnage it was. He became a bowler’s worst nightmare. This was also the time when he was having issues with the West Indies Cricket Board. He scored 733 runs in 15 matches.

IPL orange cap

Michael Hussey (2013): Finally Mr. Cricket won the IPL Orange Cap. His story is quite similar to Matthew Hayden. He had also quit international cricket but was available for IPL. Such a perfect timer of the ball, it seemed that he used to just place his shots, instead of using brute force to hit the ball out of the ground. He also scored 733 runs in 17 matches.

IPL orange cap

Robin Uthapa (2014): This was Uthapa’s comeback tournament. He had reworked his technique and was a different player. Initially in the tournament he was made to bat lower down the order but later on when he was promoted up the order, he became a force to reckon with. That year KKR also won the trophy. Uthappa went on to score 660 runs in 16 matches.
