Homeland Season 5 Episode 1 review

Homeland

A changed Carrie emerges in Homeland season 5?

Homeland is back, but is it back with a bang? The first episode of  season 5 saw Carrie Matheson in a new light. She has left CIA and Saul is might pissed with her. It seems that Carrie has moved on with her life and is now not at all concerned with the dealings of CIA.

“Separation Anxiety” unfolds two years after the events of Season 4. In this, we see Carrie as a changed person. She has left CIA and is now working as a security analyst for a German billionaire. She is done with being in conflict zone consistently, but her present employee wants to go to a camp in Lebanon which is controlled by Hezbollah.

She is trying to lead a normal life, but then when her boss asks her to go to Lebanon, things start to go south. In a way, the more she is trying to escape from the world of espionage, the more she is drawn towards it.  Her new job just shoves her back into the quagmire.

Elsewhere, a couple of hackers accidently hack into CIA’s Berlin office’s files and leak a lot of things that should not be known to the public. In this case the files that proves that Germany’s secret service is spying on its citizens with the help of CIA goes is in the process of being leaked to the public. To take stock of the situation, Saul Brenson, who also happens to be CIA’s European chief, comes to Berlin. His accidental meeting with Carrie doesn’t go well. It is quite evident that he is angry with Carrie for leaving CIA.

Then there is Peter Quinn. If you were wondering where and what was he doing in these two years, well he was in Syria and killing terrorists. He shocks the CIA board when he tells that their strategy for Syria is going to bomb big time.

Each season of Homeland introduces new characters, some of them either he betray her eventually or die trying to help her. Which of these characters will help her or die is yet to be seen, but we are sure that fans of the series will be looking forward to a lot of plot twists and some kickass assassinations by Quinn.

Overall, the episode has set the ball rolling for the whole season and it has done a good job. Over the years, Homeland might have lost its shine, but we are guessing that this season might bring back the lost sheen back to the series.

It seems that the makers of Homeland are heading towards the Edward Snowden’s story.
