India Vs Ireland match review

India continue with their winning streak

By winning their match against Ireland, India not only remained at the top spot in their pool, they also broke their World cup winning streak. India has now won nine World Cup matches in a row. Australia is the only team that is ahead of them when it comes to world Cup winning streaks. In yet another spectacular bowling performance, India managed to bowl out their opposition 5th time in a row. In this World Cup India has bowled out all its opponents.

I-2

It wasn’t a win-win for India. Ireland started off at a brisk pace and had scored 59 runs at the end of the ninth over. They started off pretty well and at one stage were 206 for 4. But they lost the plot at the end stages of their innings.

Ireland also managed to score their highest total against India. It was also the highest total any opposition had made against India in this World Cup. Ireland looked dangerous when William Porterfield (67 runs) and Niall O’ Brain (75 runs) were batting. It seemed that they would go on to score a competitive total for the Indian batsmen. But the Indian bowlers came back at them with vigour and took seven wickets for a mere 53 runs. Introduction of R Ashwin to the attack really halted the runs for the Irish batsmen.

Ireland batted first and their batsmen were hitting the Indian bowlers all over the field. It was only when the spinners were introduced that their onslaught was somewhat checked. Porterfield waged the battle against the Indian bowlers till the 22nd over, when he was caught of Mohit Sharma by Umesh Yadav.

As far as the Indian batting is concerned, the openers did well. They started at a brisk pace, and such was the onslaught, that Ireland had introduced five of its bowlers in the first 10 overs. Shikhar Dhawan was dropped on 5 and then on 10. These catches cost dearly to the Irish, as he went on to score his eighth One-Day-International hundred. Dhawan is now the second highest run scorer in the tournament. He is behind only Kumar Sangakkara. India Vs Ireland India Vs Ireland
