APJ Abdul Kalam- the people’s president

Today is APJAbdul Kalam’s birth anniversary. He was the 11th president of India. He was the people’s president and was known to motivate students and the youngsters of this country to do well. He was one of the most influential and one the greatest scientists India ever had. He had a golden heart. APJ Abdul Kalam was not only a scientist but also a thinker and a youth icon. He died while doing what he loved; interacting with students.

Here we bring you a few facts about APJ Abdul Kalam that you must know.

Kalam was unmarried: He was the first scientist and the first unmarried person to become the President of India.

Received Bharat Ratna: Kalam was the third President of to be honoured with the Bharat Ratna. This was before he became the President. He was conferred the Bharat Ratna by the then President of India, K.R. Narayanan.

Distributed newspapers after school:  Kalam used to distribute newspapers after school. This he used to do in order to add to his father’s income and also add something towards his education.

Used to follow VVS on Twitter: This is unique is because he used to follow only 38 people on twitter and VVS Laxman was one of them. He also had a large twitter following with 1.37 million followers.

Son of a devout Muslim: Kalam’s father, Jainulabdeen was a devout Muslim and was also a close friend of Rameshwaran temple priest.

Woke up at 4 am: Kalam used to wake up at 4 am and go for his mathematics class, which was taught by a teacher who took in only five students in the whole session and bathing before his class was a condition.

Caring Kalam:  Kalam was a caring man. Once a colleague had promised his children to take them to a local fair and he had also sought permission from Kalam to leave early. But somehow his colleague got involved in some work; it was much later when he remembered his promise. He rushed home but found out from his wife that Kalam had come earlier and had taken his children to the fair.
