Indians are known for their love for cricket. For us, it is a religion and the players are nothing short of gods. The country is so obsessed with the sport they many-a-times they fail to recognize the achievements of other sports. One such sport is bodybuilding. Indian bodybuilders have done relatively well, considering the fact that they have absolutely no support staff or the diet. Even after this they have won laurels for the country. It is high time we recognize their achievements.

1. Wasim Khan

Wasim Khan had won Mr. Universe at the International Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation event in Rome. It was the second time that he had made the country proud; the first time he had won the overall title at the IBFF Championships in Slovenia in Europe. He will next be aiming for the title of Mr. Olympia, the most coveted title in bodybuilding.

2. Murli Kumar

Murli Kumar was a sailor in the Indian Navy. He started lifting weights at a very late age (25) and probably wouldn’t have even imagined that one day he will become an icon in the Indian wrestling scenario. He won Mr. India for two consecutive years (2013 and 2014).

3. Sangram Chougule

An electrical engineer from Pune, Sangram Chougule is one the most well-known bodybuilders in India. He won the Mr. Universe title in the 85kg category in the World Bodybuilding Championships in Bangkok, Thailand in 2012.

4. Suhas Khamkar

Suhas is one of the most distinguished bodybuilders India has ever produced. He comes from a bodybuilding family and has won Mr. India 9 times and Mr. Olympia amateur and 7 times Mr. Maharashtra.

5. Rajendran Mani

Rajendran Mani is one of the most experienced bodybuilders in the country. Before becoming a bodybuilder, Mani served in the Indian Air Force for 15 years. Mani has won both Mr. India and Champion of Champions titles a record 8 number of times.

6. Ankur Sharma

He is one the youngest bodybuilders in the country who has shown a lot of promise. Some of his most iconic titles include Gold in 2013 WBPF World Championship, Mr. India 2012 and a second place in Mr. India Competition, 2013.

7. Ashish Sakharkar

Ashish Sakharkar is one the most famous bodybuilders to come out from Maharashtra. He is considered an icon not only in Maharashtra but in the whole of India.

8. Hira Lal

Hira Lal is one those few Indian bodybuilders who are pure vegetarians. They have broken the general notion that body builders need a non-vegetarian diet. He has won Mr. World 2011 in the 65kg category.

9. Virender Singh Ghuman

He is one the most well-known bodybuilders in the country. He won Mr. India in 2009. Just like Hira Lal, he is also known as for being a pure vegetarian. He is the only Indian bodybuilder to be roped in by Arnold Schwarzenegger to be roped in for promoting his health products in Asia.

10. Amit Chhetri

He is the most iconic Gorkha bodybuilder. Chhetri won the Champions Federation Cup in 2013 and was judged the best not only in his category but also 9 others.
