It has almost been seven years since the time Mumbaikars witnessed one of the deadliest attacks on Indian soil. Out of the horrors of the attacks came stories of heroism. There were many who lost their lives; some fell victim to the terrorist’s bullets while some fell while shielding others from the harm. The whole city stood united and came out of the attack while the rest of the country prayed for the city.

Here we bring you incredible stories of four survivors

Man gets shots twice for other and came back from the dead – The owner of a restaurant near CST Refresh heard some gunshots from outside. He asked his patrons to hide under the tables and he stood outside. Here he was shot twice. He was hit by a bullet in his abdomen and his chest. He then took a cab to the hospital on his own. Things worsened when he slipped into a coma and was declared dead. But miraculously his organs began to heal and he was up on his feet and resumed his work by mid-December.

Customers always come first – Some of the most heroic deeds during the attacks took place in The Taj hotel. The hotel staff showed a presence of mind and bolted the doors of the Crystal Rooms, outside which the terrorists were standing. According to one of the survivors, a female staff of Taj came inside the hotel again to show the commandos the exact location of the terrorists. When the terrorists cornered the people inside, the hotel staff formed a ring around the customers, in order to shield them from the bullets.

When a German politician risked her life to save others – Erika Mann, a member of the European Parliament from the Social Democratic Party of Germany was having dinner when she heard the first gunshots. She knew they were gunshots while others thought them to be firecrackers. She quickly gathered the group of people in the restaurant which n numbered around 40 and tried to lead them out. Later she also tried to arm the survivors by iron sticks used for grilling Kebabs.
