Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship

The Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship was established with the sole purpose of undertaking training, research and consultancy activities in micro and small enterprises focusing on entrepreneurship development. The Indian Institute was established in the year 1993 in Guwahati, by the then Ministry of Industry (now known as Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises). The institute began its operations in April 1994, with the governments of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland and SIDBI as its stakeholders.

The direction of the policy and guidance to the institute is provided by the Board of Members whose chairman is the secretary to the government of India, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). The governing council of the institute is headed by Chairman, NEC and the Executive Committee which is headed by the secretary, Ministry of MSME and the Government of India.

Objectives of the Institute:

  • To promote and develop entrepreneurship in the country.
  • To conduct research and provide consultancy for entrepreneurship development
  • To coordinate and collaborate with other organisations in undertaking research, training and other activities in order to increase the outreach of the institute.
  • To provide consultancy and monitoring services to MSMEs/ potential entrepreneurs and enhancing the employability of participants.
  • To promote greater use of Information Technology in the activities/function of the IIEs.
  • To comply with statutory responsibility.

 

A few functions of the Institute are:

  • Designing and organising training activities for the different target group and undertaking research relevant to the entrepreneurship.
  • Improving efficiency, effectiveness and delivery of the change agents and developmental practitioners i.e. trainers and support organisations engaged in enterprise building.
  • Provide consultancy service to the prospective and existing entrepreneurs.
  • Increasing the outreach of activities of the Institute through collaborative activities and increasing their effectiveness through the use of different tools of information technology.

 

There is a plethora of courses that the Institute offers, some of them are as follows:

Jewellery making and Designing and the duration is 600 hours, Skill Development programme on Hospitality Management and the duration is 600 hours. There are also various camps that that the institute conducts such as the Entrepreneur Awareness Camp. The Institute also conducts a workshop on things such as Jobs and placements and Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme.
