Spirited effort by Brendan Taylor

At the end of the India-Zimbabwe match, you could not help but feel bad for Brendan Taylor. This was his final match, and he scored a century. His innings marked the resurgence of the Zimbabwe batting line-up. Zimbabwe was 33 for 3 when Taylor came in and when he left Zimbabwe lost five wickets in a span of 52 runs.  At the end of their innings, Zimbabwe ended up scoring the highest total against India in this World Cup. Taylor became the first Zimbabwean batsman to score back-to-back hundreds in a World Cup tournament.

Spinners face the wrath

Although India maintained their unbeaten streak in the World Cup tournaments, there was a worrisome factor in this match from India’s point of view. Zimbabwe gave them a tough fight, and India managed to win only in the 49th over. This was one match where the opposition really tested the Indian players. Although the pacers did a good job of containing the Zimbabwean batsmen, it was the spinners who took a beating. Both Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja went for 75 and 71 runs respectively. The pacers were impressive as all three of them took three wickets each. Shami is now the second leading wicket taker in the tournament.

He made sure that he took India to the other side, which he has done quite a number of times. But the star of the chase was Suresh Raina, who scored his fifth century.

Zimbabwean bowlers did trouble Raina with their bouncers, but he managed to put them away. Although Zimbabwe lacked an efficient attack, they still managed to trouble the Indian batsmen. The asking rate had reached 8.38 in the 30th over, but once Raina crossed the half-century mark, he accelerated and took calculated risks. Dhoni scored the winning runs, by hitting a six.India vs Zimbabwe
