Five female artist who are making it large in the Indie music scenario

Over the past years the Indian music industry has changed manifolds. A lot of talented musicians are now finding their foothold in the music industry. A number of Indie artists have created a niche for themselves in the industry. The most positive aspect of this phenomenon is the fact that a number of women musicians have also come forward and mesmerized all of us with their music.

Here is a list of popular female Indie music artist.

  • Monica Dogra: One of the pioneers of the Indie music is Monica Dogra;  the other half of an alternative-electronic band called Shaa’ir and Func. The American Singer of Indian origin came to settle down in Mumbai around eight years ago. Since then she has moved from strength to strength.   • Tanvi Rao: The singer form the electronic and hip-hop band, Sulk Station is another Indie artist who is enthralling the audience by her sultry voice. Rao was also nominated for the Best Female Vocalist category for the Jack Daniel Awards.Tanvi Rao
  • Sanaya Ardeshir: The lass whose debut gig was right after she came to India from London, where she got inspired and learnt a lot from the Underground Bass movement. She is not just known in the music circles for her Jazz solos, but also her old school synth. Her debut EP was well received by the music community.
  • Sukhmani Malik: The trained Hindustani classical singer from Chandigarh has captivated the audience with her strong voice. Malik along with her bandmate Hari have formed a band Hari*Sukhmani. Their music is a blend of traditional Punjabi folk music and electronic. They have changed the way people look at folk fusion music.
  • Tripti Kharbangar: The vocalist from the Blues band, Soulmate is one of the best blues singers in the country. Coming from the North-East, Tripti Kharbangar has earned quite reputation for herself in India. Soulmate was the only Blues band to represent India in the 23rd International Blues Challenge in 2007. They were the semi-finalists in the competition
