20 categories to be exempted from the odd-even rule
Starting from January 1st till January 15th the Delhi government’s odd-even registration number rule will be implemented in order to curb the rising pollution levels in the city. Many in the city have hailed this as a landmark decision while there are others who believe that the implementation of the idea won’t be practical, as there are a number of factors which will come into play.
Because of these several contributing factors the Delhi government has come up with 20 vehicle categories which will be exempted from the rule.
Here we bring you the list of vehicle categories which will be exempted from the rule.
- All two-wheelers
- CNG vehicles which will have to display the certificate
- Electric and hybrid vehicles
- Women; women drivers with a male child up to the age of 12.
- Vehicles of the President, Vice-President, Prime – Minister, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha, Governors of states/ Lt Governor, Chief Justice of India, Union Ministers, Leaders of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, Chief Ministers of State except Delhi, judges of Supreme Court and High Court and Lokayukta.
- Emergency Vehicles, ambulance, fire, hospital, prison, hearse and enforcement vehicles
- Vehicles of paramilitary forces, Ministry of Defence, pilot and escort
- Vehicles of SPG protectees
- Vehicles bearing diplomatic corps registration numbers
- Those on the way to the hospital for a medical emergency should carry proof
- Vehicles of the physically challenged
It has also been proposed that the challans will be issued by those in the Delhi police who are above the rank of head constable and above in the Delhi Transport Department; and, officers and authorities authorized by the divisional commissioner, revenue department, Delhi.
