With over 3000 cases reported all across the country in a short span of time, it is imperative that people should take all the important steps to avoid the flu. More than 219 deaths related to swine flu have been reported in the country. People are taking all kinds of precautions to avoid the flu. Here are some of the important steps that will help you in preventing swine flu.

Wash your hands: First and foremost, wash your hands thoroughly before you plan to eat something. Use soap and water when washing your hands, if that is not available then you can also use a hand sanitizer. Swine flu virus is known to survive on things such as door knobs and taps for around two hours; hence it is important to wash your hands, whenever you are using the washroom or public toilet.

Avoid personal contact: If you are highly susceptible to swine flu, then it is sincerely advised that you avoid public places, where there are huge crowds. Kids younger than five years and people who are above the age of 65 have the have the highest chances of getting swine flu. Also pregnant ladies and people with chronic medical conditions should be careful.

Cover your mouth:  When you cough and sneeze please ensure that you cover your mouth and nose. To stop the spread of the virus to other people, make sure that you sneeze and cough into a tissue paper or something, which can be disposed off later.

Wear mouth masks: It is also advisable to wear a mouth mask, when visiting a public place. The chances of obtaining swine flu greatly decrease, when wearing a mask. Hence it is advisable to wear a mask.
